Construction site preparation

I decided to build around an existing mobile home because that's what I had available. I'll be adding a number of rooms first and then one by one I'll remove exisitng rooms of the mobile home and replace them with sandbag rooms.

The ground here is whats called "Glade". The Entire property is a sloping hillside of multi-layered rock over an 8 mile thick plate of rock. Most likely with pleanty of caves in it somewhere. To dig here is next to impossible. So I'll be doing absolutely anything I can to avoid digging a single hole, trench, footing or anything similar.

I considered leveling out the site by adding filler due to it's slope but decided that I want the ground around the building to remain as pristine as possible. So, instead of a built up filler of rock and gravel, I am laying the bags down directly onto the existing ground. I am going to compensate for the slope with more bags on the downhill side.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to build ontop of gravel and rock to ensure water flowing between the layers of rock can flow freely under and past the house. On the uphill, outter rooms I am not very concerned with this since I will eventualy build a french drain around the entire house but the interior and down hill rooms I will prolly lay down some gravel before I set the bags down.

For this room, once the shell is completed, I'll build up the floor in with rock until it's mostly level. Then I'll concrete my inside walls an let any dripping or spills just land where it may and then go over that with small gravel and then smooth sand so I have a nice smooth surface to poor my first layer of concrete for the flooring.

Now that I know where the room is going and where to start, it's time to start droppin bags on the ground!
