Here the boys are peeling the bark off of these eastern red cedar trees.

I just cut these today so, as you can see, the bark comes off in large, easy to peel sections. Two people working on a tree this size can have it peeled in ten minutes or less. If left to dry a week or even days in hot sun, this peeling job can turn into an hour easily.

 
   
  Sometimes the job can get a little monotonous allthough it's also a sort of meditative process if you allow it to be. Here we have a 15 year old ADHD poster boy showing that having a sense of humor can help the job go by faster as well.

Here you can see some of that wood grain detail. This is why I like to peel these by hand.

Later on these knots will get cut flush and smoothed with a belt sander. Once the finish is put on they will have a nice deep read luster which offsets the yellow/white wood beutifully.
